ALL AFRICA POKER TOURNAMENT |
They came, they saw, they conquered! Your home away from home, Piggs Peak Casino this November played host to the richest tournament in Africa and oh what a thrill-a-minute it was! Renowned for creating numerous instant millionaires, the final All Africa Poker tournament for 2009 closed off with a bang that reverberated across the whole continent!
Dubbed by many as the pinnacle of the African poker experience and frequented by celebrities as well as established poker professionals from across the globe alike, the AAPT was undoubtedly a roaring success. 109 poker players, pros and novices alike took to the felt, with poker greats such as Ryan Brauer, Melanie Banfield, Ray Rahme, Darren Kramer and Ryan Eber leading the fray, alongside celebritys who included Danny K and Supersport presenter Neil Andrews amongst many others.
The spotlight however, shone on one man and one man alone on the glorious night of Saturday the 21st of November. Fondly known as the White Eagle, 60 year old Ilja Martinovic soared through the pack and clinched a victory that many only dream of…the championship title, as well as the winning purse of a stunning E1 Million. Martinovic was one of the most popular players throughout the tournament amongst spectators and opponents alike. He came back from a minuscule chip stack to take a commanding lead from day two and never looked back.
He was superbly confident and remained his usual exuberant self, even when taking big knocks. Martinovic may describe his strongest playing characteristic as gentlemanly but throughout All Africa Poker weekend, he was anything but. He was the epitome of an aggressive player, taking advantage of every weakness he could see in opponents.
A worthy and most popular winner by any standards, Martinovics win will certainly bump him up from his current rating of 48 on The BLUFF Poker Player Rankings to a far higher status! Piggs Peak Hotel is proud to have been the stomping ground for the cream of the poker crop! Heres to an even more exciting 2010 tournament on the 11th to the 14th of March, where we will be crowning our next All Africa Poker champion!
We hope to see you there, Poker face in tow! ... |
