About SwazilandJust over the border of Swaziland, Piggs Peak Hotel & Casino provides you a wonderful opportunity for exposure to the unique and colourful Swazi culture, rich with heroic tales of brave warriors and myths of caves inhabited by ancient spirits. Our friendly and hospitable people still serve a King and Queen, and ensure that the traditional ceremonies instilled by our ancestors, remain alive. Tourists can witness some of the most spectacular displays of these, during their two major annual celebrations - the Reed Dance and the Incwala, or Kingship Ceremony.
The Reed Dance is a ceremonial event which lasts for eight days and is usually held late August or early September - with the objective to teach young girls about traditional values and chastity. Here one can watch thousands of unmarried, bare-breasted girls perform a magnetic dance to pay homage to their Swazi Queen mother.
The Incwala, is a harvest festival, held from mid December every year, in honour of the first fruit. During this event, one sees formidable warriors in traditional war attire, passionately waving shields and spears in honor of their King.
In it’s favourable climate which is predominantly sub-tropical, Swaziland has a wealth of natural resources. One such feature, is the Mgwayiza Mist Belt Forest. It contains trees that are more than a hundred years old as well as a fascinating diversity of birds and amphibians that can be found nowhere else. For this reason, the forest is of international importance.
